ATC Building Spotlight Portraits


Celebrating Bass School Students and Their Academic Journeys

The Bass School Dean at UT Dallas tasked its communications team with strengthening its storytelling to better demonstrate how the school lives up to its mission to “Think, Make, and Do Good.” A key priority was showcasing impactful student success stories by creating compelling portraits and narratives that highlight their achievements. To maximize visibility, the team was also directed to display these stories in a high-traffic area of one of its buildings, ensuring students, faculty, and visitors could engage with the school’s successes. Additionally, the team needed to develop versatile recruitment and communication materials to support multiple departments, further reinforcing the school’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

Deliverables

Capture the essence of Bass School students through their stories and create a cohesive visual story that included a wall installation and animated video opening.

My Creative Contributions

Communication Director, Bindu Varghese assigned me to develop the visual language and overall design direction for the walkway project.

Portrait Wall:

  • Tall, impactful portraits to draw attention and guide visitors into the building.

  • A unifying “string of light” motif symbolizing both a welcoming entrance and the journey each student undertakes at the Bass School.

  • Vibrant gradients representing the interdisciplinary nature of the school, with each student’s area of study highlighted in unique colors.

Animated Opening: This video animation encapsulated the essence of the wall portraits and the campaign in a dynamic 20-second video intro animation.

The Impact

The final wall installation has become a centerpiece of the ATC walkway, warmly welcoming visitors and inspiring current and prospective students. The campaign has significantly expanded the Bass Communications team’s toolkit, enabling other departments to leverage these materials for their goals. Recruitment, Advising, and Development teams now have a wealth of content to showcase student success and support their initiatives. The project has strengthened the Bass School’s ability to communicate its mission and values, leaving a lasting impression on all who engage with it.
