Celebrating the Bass School’s Legacy and Interdisciplinary Spirit
The Jonsson Building, a historic landmark on the UT Dallas campus, lacked the modern aesthetic of newer buildings—particularly in the Bass School’s Dean suite, which felt overlooked and failed to stand out. To address this, the Dean sought to refresh the suite’s walls, ensuring guests, students, faculty, and staff could immediately recognize the Bass School’s presence. The goal was to transform the space into one that celebrated the school’s history, inspired students, and reflected its dynamic, interdisciplinary mission.

Mural and history design walls featuring a historical timeline, inspired study spaces, and interdisciplinary branding to revitalize the Dean's suite while reinforcing Bass School identity.
Design & Creative Approach
Inspiration: The chosen design was inspired by the Bass School’s unofficial tagline, “Think. Make. Do Good.” and its interdisciplinary nature.
Visual Design:
Used overlaid colors and protruding shapes to symbolize the interconnectedness of arts, humanities, and technology.
Represented the school’s multilevel approach to teaching and learning through layered, dynamic visuals.
Incorporated bold typography to emphasize the school’s core values, facing outward to inspire students and visitors.
Timeline Wall : Expanded on the visual language of the art wall, using singular shapes as building blocks to represent the incremental steps that contribute to the Bass School’s history.
The Outcome
The redesign was met with overwhelmingly positive reception, significantly boosting morale among faculty, students, and staff while earning consistent praise throughout the year. Beyond immediate impact, the project established a foundational visual language that has since guided multiple Bass Creative Communications team initiatives, ensuring long-term brand consistency and alignment across future projects.
